Hello everyone,
This is Matt Cuthbertson. Just wanted to post a comment and encourage people to dialogue in this comment section after hearing this podcast. I’m very excited about Orthodoxy in America and would love to hear from anyone in the ICCEC or other expressions of Christianity that are searching.
PS - I’ll try webcam commenting when I get home.
Hi!
I think this podcast will encourage anyone who knows there’s more to Christianity than they might currently be aware of. Let me say, “if you are happy where your at, then there’s no need for you to listen to this podcast.” For others, I believe it will provoke you to examine your core beliefs. I think you will find that the spirit of this podcast is one of love. Please share with your friends.
Dear Matt,
I am incredibly proud of you, as a son, as a man of God.
As we made eye contact at SM, at the last Wed night service I was to attend there, I saw love in your eyes and I pray you understood, that in my look, I was saying goodbye to SM and the CEC. I would love to hear from you.
Great podcast.
My love and blessing always.
Bishop Fick
Bishop Fick,
It is really good to hear from you. I respect and love you and your family. I learned many things from the short time I spent with you. Thanks for the encouragement!
Love,
Matt

This is a very encouraging podcast. Knowing these men and knowing what they had to give up is extremely encouraging. If you listen to this and you’re peaceful were you are, then like my father said stay exactly where you are. But if there’s a question mark on your heart about where you are, then give it a chance. For if you’re walking around with a mask on your face just to make everyone else happy, what’s the point. If you’re not 100% in it, then why keep kidding yourself. There’s nothing wrong with change nor the outcome of it. Like Bob Dylan said, “The Time’s They Are A Changin’ “.

Beautiful discussion. Thank you so much for such frank, honest, and moving stories. The decision to choose Orthodoxy brings up such raw emotion and radical change, and God bless you and the rest of your friends and parishioners who are making the decision to join the Orthodox faith through St. John the Theologian!
I share your experiences and backgrounds and am encouraged to hear from you through this podcast. I am a former (yes, another former) CEC priest who pastored a small parish, who spent 10+ years in the CEC, who went through St. Michaels, who began to ask the same questions of ‘why a new denomination’, who began to question ‘invisible’ or ‘branch theory’ justifications for being separate from the Church, who identified with Orthodox theology, counldn’t read enough of it and preached from it, who labored and struggled through the CEC ‘issues’, who resigned from being a priest in June 06 and was chrismated (along with his wife and 3 children) Pascha 07.
Safe Landings as your “journey” finally finds it’s end at Home.
Now comes the hard part…..’theosis’…..learning the theology is easy compared to living like Jesus.
I think that I am just now beginning to learn to love.
Well….I guess the journey isn’t over…..it’s just beginning.
Blessings to you and thank you for your thoughtful comments. This was helpful to me.
We hope everyone else was as encouraged by this podcast as we are. This move to Orthodoxy has brought so much peace and happiness into our own home, we can only thank God for leading us to this refuge.
We love you all.
GET IN THE ARK!!!
Hey Matt,
We just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed yours and Kevin’s interview on the “Man in Black” podcast. What a blessing to hear all that God is doing in your lives! There is no doubt that your words will minister to many seekers of the “fullest most correct expression of the original Faith” taught by our Lord. And especially when CEC people listen to this interview they will understand your heart and it will most certainly dispel all the stupid rumors out there about you. (Phil’s words)
At a time when so many “traditional” Christians are unhappy and confused by the moral and doctrinal changes taking place within their churches, and as you so aptly said, when so many denominations seems to be rewriting and adjusting their theology in order to fit their own agenda and leanings, it’s great to finally be a part of a church where those points are not even on the table for discussion! We too have come home to Orthodox Christianity which offers us all a peaceful and fulfilling haven where Truth is non-negotiable - Yay!
We send our love to everyone - especially your mom and dad - and please know that we are praying for you and everyone who is contemplating or in the process of making this most sobering and life-changing move.
(((hugs))) & blessings,

Hi Matt, I was in SacTheo with you at Saint Michael’s seminary back in 2003, and remember very well the question being raised–why aren’t we Catholic or Orthodox? That question lead me to further investigate Rome and Orthodoxy, and after much confusion (and heartache), I was joyfully received into the Roman Catholic Church, and I praise God for His kindness and mercy in leading me home.
God bless you in your journey.
Father bless! Jacob, Kevin, and Matt–your prayers!
Thanks for this, perhaps the best episode of TMIB to date! I confess that I’m a little sad to be able to spend so little time with you at St. John as you’re beginning your journey.
I so enjoyed being with you all at your get-together last month; I hope to see you when I come to visit again in December (God willing!). It’ll be nice to put faces with voices!
Steve, with his meager prayer for you
Well said Matt and Kevin, I couldn’t agree with you more.
I want to thank Julian Mullen for being such a great friend and student of Theology. If it wasn’t for him I may have been robbed of the gift of knowing the Orthodox Faith. It’s such a blessing to see that so many other friends have joined St. Johns as well. Its always good seeing a familiar face and I’m excited about meeting our new friends at St. Johns. I have much to learn.
I want to thank Fa.Andrew for the Catechism classes on Saturday, it’s really great. I still can’t believe I get to bring my wife & son to something so special and for FREE. We love it and Jamie and I are learning and growing together in Christ. Thank you.
Amen, Matt and KB!
Thank you so much for sharing your stories! It’s refreshing to hear how you got to where you are and the epiphanies you had along the way. KB, I couldn’t agree with you more that those who are 100% happy with where they are, should stay there. But, anyone that has any kind of question in their mind, or isn’t feeling fulfilled by where they are, should definitely look into Orthodoxy.
I still have A LOT to learn, and the weekly Catechism classes are really helping with that, but I already feel as though there was an emptiness inside of me that is slowly being filled up. Fr Andrew is so open and honest, is a wonderful change. He doesn’t dance around our questions and he tells us flat out how it is. And that’s been a breath of fresh air to me. I started attending St. Michael’s at the beginning of this year, coming from a childhood deprived of a relationship with God, so I was very unknowledgeable about religion and faith and God. I learned a bit from my friends that attended St. Michael’s, but I didn’t really know much about the CEC’s history or beliefs. Due to my lack of church background, I was basically an infant in my relationship with God. It’s nice to know that Orthodoxy has such a solid foundation and a priest that is so open and honest. I want to thank Fr Andrew for everything he has done, from Catechism classes to the meetings at KB’s house. They have really helped me grow in my relationship with God and opened my eyes and my heart to Orthodoxy. My experience so far has been enlightening and I’m excited to learn more!
Anyways, I just wanted to share a little bit about where I am… I love everyone at St. Michael’s and I am very thankful for everything that I gained in my time there.
Peace be to all!
Hello all,
I have not had the opportunity to listen to this great podcast mainly because I don’t have that capability over here. But from what I am reading, it sounds great. It is so wonderful to see all these people on the journey towards the “one holy, catholic, and apostolic church.” I indeed have come home as well and am so excited about this next Pascha when our entire family will be brought into the fold… love you all

Very interesting podcast. I’m from Austria and I was recently ordained to the holy priesthood of Christ in the CEEC. I have a strong roman-catholic/word of faith background.
It is interesting to see, how former CEC priests enter the orthodox church.
I have 2 questions:
1. Does the orthodox church not recognize the Apostolic Succession in the CEC? Is there not conditional ordination?
2. Are there any former CEC Priests who entered the Roman Catholic Church? If so, I would be interested and would like to get into contact with them.
God bless,
+ Christoph

Christoph-
I think Fr. Andrew answers your first question in the 2nd part of the Question and Answers show.
One of my favorite parts was Matt talking about operation rescue and the people who were the “last to give up”. Awesome. Fullness of the Faith dot com needs to put THAT on a T-shirt.
Kevin was great too. I rofl’ed at his honesty. Thanks to everyone for a great show.
Your contact link does not seem to be active so I am posting here. I am from Africa and find your file sizes massive and take ages to download. We have limited speeds and also capping of amount of traffic per month. I download regularly from other sites and by cutting down on the kps rate one can get good sound quality for voice - audio at about 8-9Mb per hour. Check out Our Life in Christ as an example.
Also the manufacturers of iPod suggest that in order to work more efficiently and to conserve battery life file sizes should not exceed about 11Mb
