  1. It keeps getting better. So, the Orthodox are amillennial…sweet!

  2. I attended a Calvary Chapel for the better part of my High School years (early 90s). During these years, the rapture/end times/Hal Lindsay/Chuck Missler/Late Great Planet Earth/pre-trib story was profoundly important in what it meant to be a Christian in the CC context. I can still recall entire sermons outlining how and when the end would come, vivid timelines of the dispensations, and a lot of emphasis on the importance of the re-emergence of Israel and so on.

My Christianity was so caught up in this particular worldview that when I learned that most of this stuff appeared only in the 19th century, it was a true crisis of faith. Debunking the rapture emptied most of what I thought Christianity was all about. Unfortunately, what filled the void was not Orthodoxy, but an over-confident trust in my own reason and a steady stream of 19th century German theologians and their offspring. But that’s another post.

  3. What a podcast! I knew about it but it took a long time for me to finally listen to it. I never believed in the Rapture but what really shocked me was the roots of this heretical teaching. A tree is known by it’s fruit. I guess in this podcast, the tree and it’s fruit is known by it’s roots……

I highly recommend this to any recovering protestants who have heard this teaching.

  4. IN RESPONSE TO CHAD, I WAS YOUR CLONE BUT 10 YEARS EARLIER. I CONVERTED TO ORTHODOXY IN MY LATE 30′S. I DIDN’T HAVE THE SAME STREAM OF GERMAN THEOLOGIANS IN MY HISTORY. I BECAME DISENCHANTED WITH THE CALVARY CHAPEL SYSTEM AND VISITED AN ORTHODOX CHURCH. WHEN THE PRIEST THERE GENTLY TOLD BE OF THE RAPTURES’ VERY NEW ORIGINS I WAS AS SHOCKED AS I’VE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE. THAT WAS MY CRISIS OF FAITH. BUT AT THAT POINT I HAD ALREADY BEGUN MY JOURNEY TO ORTHODOXY. I WAS FROM THE “BIG” CALVARY CHAPEL IN COSTA MESA. WHICH ONE WERE YOU FROM CHAD?

  5. [...] perspective on the rapture, the end times and the whole Jesus coming back business, check out this [...]

  6. “If I understand Scripture correctly, Jesus taught us that the generation which sees the ‘budding of the fig tree,’ the birth of the nation of Israel, will be the generation that sees the Lord’s return. I believe that the generation of 1948 is the last generation. Since a generation of judgment is forty years and the Tribulation period lasts seven years, I believe the Lord could come back for His Church any time before the Tribulation starts, which would mean any time before 1981. (1948 + 40 – 7 = 1981).”
