This week on Generation Orthodox Podcast - Pastors Perspective
This week on Generation Orthodox, we start off with the evolution of social networking (Facebook rocks!) and talk a little about what we’ve been up to. Marina is studying Russian and finally started reading Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. Calee is going back to school and Turbo has images of icons he has written up on his Myspace.
This show was recorded on the Nativity of the Theotokos, the Mother of God. We talk a little about why we celebrate the birth of Mary, her parents’ struggle with infertility, and how Mary was dedicated to the Temple and grew in her service of God so much that she eventually could become the God-bearer.
This moves us to look at the Orthodox Christian Church’s approach to scripture. Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, mentioned on his radio show, the Pastor’s Perspective, that the Orthodox Church was "weak on their scripture." The Generation Orthodox crew counts up the number of chapters of scripture read during the weekend services and remark how the Orthodox Church has a high respect for scripture and looks at it very differently than evangelical churches like Calvary Chapel.

Show Sponors:

I just wanted to say that passage from John wear Jesus would not allow Mary to touch him always confused me, too. I recently heard someone say that the Greek verb Jesus that is attributed to Jesus in that passage has the sense of someone “grabbing” someone, as in, grabbing them so they can’t go anywhere. That render would make it more like Jesus is saying, “Hey, get off me, I still have to ascend and you’re making it difficult,” or, “You’re grabbing to hold on to me and yet I still have to go.”
Whether that is what the Greek means, who knows. Anyway, another great show.
Pastors Perspective:
Greeting in Christ,
Thank you for responding to Pastor Chuck Smith’s comments on the air waves.
As a former employee of CC, it causes me great frustration when I hear him respond in error to any callers questions on Orthodoxy. I pray more seekers of truth have the courage to question what these “elders” are preaching.
My favorite podcast by far. Keep up the good work.
