Glad you are back. Being that I am moving to far western Wyoming (near Salt Lake City), you may be the only Orthodoxers I hear in a long time.
Yet another great show.
I was stuck by your comments about the prayers of the saints guiding and blessing each of us. It is a really profound point that gets lost in our culture where dead is dead no matter how holy you are.
I just wanted to relate to you all a brief insight to my fathers conversion to Orthodoxy some 30 years ago.
He was the son of a Pentecostal missionary in China just after the war. It was here that he first came into contact with the Russian Orthodox community living in exile. My Grandfather did some work with ST. John of Shanghi, both foreign nationals witnessing the Gospel to the most desperate of the city. My father knew who ST John was although never formally or personally, as well knew that he would bless the city on all sides each day.
Fast forward a few decades, and we were talking about Orthodoxy and elements that have brought people to the faith. I asked him about his conversion, thinking it would be some kind of answer about being a disenfranchised Anglican minister, but he told me (square in the eye too!) that it was DIRECTLY through the prayers of ST. John of Shanghi. For the longest time I thought this was sort of strange, if not nostalgic, but in the time after his death (Jan 06) I have really come to appreciate that element in his conversation, and more to the point, the conviction of what prayer (known or unknown) can bring about through the saints.
Your show continues to bring wonderful insites to living a Orthodox life.
By your prayers.
PS. will any of you be at the OCA assembly in Pittsburgh?
I’ve just discovered your podcast and really enjoyed it. I was hoping that you’d have a link or have listed the books that you discussed but no such luck. Any way those could be posted or sent this way? Thanks so much!
